Really!

First it starts with a casual comment, then there are the "new" magazines and books that start to just happen to be on the table while we are having tea. Hmmm.."Not interested" says I, "Way to busy and isn't it expensive?" Vague answers are heard and the next thing I know I'm registered to take a class; don't ask me how she does it, but she does it.

So now I'm in a class and working with "silver" that needs to be handled in just such a way to avoid all sorts of evils. Thankfully, we have a great instructor Pam Feindel of Attitude Jewelry. It is almost magically how the clay leaves and a beautiful creation appears. Truth be told, I did enjoy the class very much and will be taking another one shortly to make a ring.

Stay tuned for pictures of our creations in my next blog.
Well, that might work for some but they don't have my loving "sisters" editing and giving constructive input. Just kidding - couldn't live without them.

The second lesson was how kind and sharing people are to someone they don't even know but who shares a common interest.

As I said in my earlier post I have been exploring the internet looking for images that would take us through the years and that I could share. With jewelery it is truly about the look and "feel". Not being able to provide the "feel" left me with the visual and I wanted to have good quality pictures that could almost give you the "feel" of the piece.

Then reality struck..."copyright"- ooops - almost forgot about that. After consulting with my wise "twin" sister Pearl, I realized that there would indeed be more work and planning to this new venture than I had thought. Oh, and did I also mention learning curve because I am the least computer literate of the bunch and my spelling and grammar is questionable.

So back I go with more insight and direction on how I could accomplish my goal. One of the suggestions was to contact the person(s) who's image I wanted to use and ask permission. So back I go to refind the picture's owner and then email them explaining my mission. To be truthful I didn't expect to get a quick response or a response at all. Boy was I wrong ..within a short period of time I had not one response, but two.

So I now can share with you not only the images but a direct link to their websites that will cover all the years and more in regards to the evolution of jewelry. It also saved me a great deal of time because everything I was going to explore and share is there for all to see and explore. Just be warned that there is so much to see and learn on their sites that you will need at least two cups of your favorite beverage.
The Bead Sisterhood needed one of the "sisters" to manage the "blog" page on our website and through the process of elimination I was chosen. Actually, I think they finally realized that I have been doing the least amount of work among the family.

If you are new to the BeadSisterhood than you may not know that we are five ladies who formed an instant bond when we met (even the related ones !). We are all addicted to anything that shines or can be sorted. Don't you just love those bags of 1000 of anything to be divided between sisters and friends? If you would like to learn more about each of us then check out our "about us" link.

So where this blog goes and what things are blogged about is anyone's guess. The most obvious subject will be about jewelery. However, the title got me thinking about how much has changed over the past 60+ years. That is the number of years since I've been on this earth. But if we are looking at maturity I'm barely pushing 30ish!

I had a peek around the web for some of the information and pictures on what types of jewellery was popular over the years and I'm thinking that some of the jewelery from the good ole days might be best left in the past.

I'm not sure that everyone will agree what was the best decade but for the next few posts I will be showing you what you wore, what you could have worn, and even what you may be glad you never had to wear because you are only a wee young thing.

Stay tuned and see you in my next post....before I go I will leave you with one visual. This is a beautiful hat pin, with the Royal Wedding just over maybe we should be looking for a hat to go with the pin!
It's very close in design but the most significant difference is the pendant. This one is longer and narrower than the previous one.
Fran had seen her brass necklace set on the Bead Sisterhood site and loved it. She really wanted a set to match an outfit. But she wanted the beads to be darker brown/green rather than the purplish hue on the original design. And could she have smaller earrings and a bracelet to match too? So Millie waved her "magic wand" and made it all happen as you can see in these pictures. What really happened was Millie not only made the set but she also made all the brass jump rings by hand!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 297px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLnepmH6NyGxjAnZqX4UDf9_7Rub1O3yhDUKjTrTwaC1wLtmGFmy9HOBNhebnLAnKqkgGg_8QhtsrThIvTex4VCgXE2vrOxi1ERlHong899xV-mvADzJGDJCF-x4wseEfTcqZXhOHw9x7e/s320/brass+jewelry+set.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374787082045398050" />The Beading Gemhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10373750828368944711noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-927355433614342848.post-67165850976909980002009-08-17T03:52:00.000-07:002009-11-06T14:55:34.018-08:00The website went down and we are mad!!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">

In a good way. She had come to pick up several pieces of jewelry we made over from her mother's triple stranded AB clear crystal necklace. She was clearly pleased.

It wasn't really her style so Bonnie and Pearl overhauled the necklace and did a complete jewelry makeover so she could wear it. The triple strand yielded so many beads we were able to make several pieces for her with some beads left over!

Bonnie made the bracelet above. The bracelet was just lovely but the photo wasn't as it was hastily taken with a cell phone camera before the client arrived. None of us remembered to bring a camera. Fortunately Pearl did photograph her designs before the were turned over. The designs were based on what the client wanted and preferred to wear.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFf9i1DjelMPHC-9KNiOqsS8MEgZRQ_1Ly70O5CU6ccq8YFIE-bQt_vJprjjY2ljydvzYVcVv4Qs_3Wctj4zJuc9NOShBg22tGLBlvkROL7iwDLar_h8p9Sm9b_ptpg7OH_ar-58gmkE5t/s400/DSC06314.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368080714533078018" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 358px; height: 318px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3oh3geeWpyNI76IuqYOZnX_58dNjDl8FuLhkeG13ann-Quopd0tbB7nICoP3poiHf7LndUEtFWjkdXHQbrh9RlwvPDfE0eTnjWCT_ThxQFF05kZCfEtzkPMBC92jUz66ubystjbAETMUg/s400/black+and+clear+crystal+earrings+pendant.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368081097932615970" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 336px; height: 369px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2SOscsgMCKq8JfQOmuCxMbslduX0B16Fw6vh1lYS7BPFowFmWtDYT9vM11tT77vKafwg4EQk1vteSUGzSIddhQjKssJo4wgpXiZw0AYrL7mbE52tIG6tiDEI3VHubYTKwfDEsX4fz9Iax/s400/AB+crystal+bead+necklace.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368081433949507202" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 352px; height: 364px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheMwJyxa_Iwu3uBqYkMQqfEzDfliiaSU26LyeQS20Gfrtte-9K-c5nd8lj6N4Il6YIfvw7SXdp3Tgl8OTExtB-ODdbZxRhWJ2d7_VZe3SXa67AyaCI41spNZ2q6rpi0SHd93MwUnCnEtAf/s400/faceted+crystal+drop+earrings.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368082143678363026" />The Beading Gemhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10373750828368944711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-927355433614342848.post-85261676751584307262009-08-03T14:46:00.001-07:002009-08-03T14:51:41.054-07:00Third time lucky sign?

Sigh. The first time Harbourview did the Sisters Too sign, "sisters" was misspelt as "sisiters". It was redone and hurrah, the sisters is correct but the jewelry is now a hybrid between the British "jewellery" and the American "jewelry". I just couldn't believe the crowds - there was nearly no parking left when I arrived within the first hour of the market opening. All the more remarkable since the Grand Opening isn't until August.

You can check out the Harborview Weekend Market's website as well as their Flickr slideshow for more pictures and details. The Bead Sisterhood features prominently under the Vendors section of their website.

Some of the vendors are still not quite ready. There are also a few empty booths but with time, I believe the market will grow and be an important part of this community like the Farmer's Market in Halifax. As this is a covered market, the stalls can be open year round. Admission is free on Saturdays and a small fee of $1 on Sundays.

And here is the Sisters Too! booth. Our new website is virtually complete and we are almost ready to go live! Thanks to Bead Sister Tamara who worked so hard to get it ready.

We've had phone calls, emails and even group chats to come up with our website. Through it all, we managed to giggle our way through brainstorming sessions. It's not easy with five of us, each with our own opinions but we managed it and that is what counts.

The website looks beautiful. Now we are busy loading our new online store with lovely jewelry.
