We do custom orders
>> Thursday, August 27, 2009
Millie recently did a custom order. Fran had seen her brass necklace set on the Bead Sisterhood site and loved it. She really wanted a set to match an outfit. But she wanted the beads to be darker brown/green rather than the purplish hue on the original design. And could she have smaller earrings and a bracelet to match too? So Millie waved her "magic wand" and made it all happen as you can see in these pictures. What really happened was Millie not only made the set but she also made all the brass jump rings by hand!
The website went down and we are mad!!
>> Monday, August 17, 2009
The picture above just about sums up the hair-pulling frustration over the weekend when the Bead Sisterhood site went down, allegedly for non-payment of fees! Tamara, our "webmistress", was fit to be tied for we were paid up and the hosting company was not responding to urgent emails. The site's up now but we're still not impressed and neither would anyone who tried to access it.
Vintage crystal bead jewelry makeover
>> Sunday, August 9, 2009
Today was the first time we almost made a client cry. In a good way. She had come to pick up several pieces of jewelry we made over from her mother's triple stranded AB clear crystal necklace. She was clearly pleased.
It wasn't really her style so Bonnie and Pearl overhauled the necklace and did a complete jewelry makeover so she could wear it. The triple strand yielded so many beads we were able to make several pieces for her with some beads left over!
Bonnie made the bracelet above. The bracelet was just lovely but the photo wasn't as it was hastily taken with a cell phone camera before the client arrived. None of us remembered to bring a camera. Fortunately Pearl did photograph her designs before the were turned over. The designs were based on what the client wanted and preferred to wear.
Third time lucky sign?
>> Monday, August 3, 2009
Sigh. The first time Harbourview did the Sisters Too sign, "sisters" was misspelt as "sisiters". It was redone and hurrah, the sisters is correct but the jewelry is now a hybrid between the British "jewellery" and the American "jewelry". Oh well, good job we are Canadians and can take a mishmash!
Opening Day of the Harbourview Weekend Market!
>> Saturday, July 11, 2009
Today was the first day of Dartmouth's new weekend market and what a response. I just couldn't believe the crowds - there was nearly no parking left when I arrived within the first hour of the market opening. All the more remarkable since the Grand Opening isn't until August.
You can check out the Harborview Weekend Market's website as well as their Flickr slideshow for more pictures and details. The Bead Sisterhood features prominently under the Vendors section of their website.
Some of the vendors are still not quite ready. There are also a few empty booths but with time, I believe the market will grow and be an important part of this community like the Farmer's Market in Halifax. As this is a covered market, the stalls can be open year round. Admission is free on Saturdays and a small fee of $1 on Sundays.
And here is the Sisters Too! booth. Like many vendors, Bonnie and Cindy are still stocking and labelling. The sign was misspelt so it is currently missing in action whilst a new one is made. The picture below show Bonnie arranging our jewelry.
Here is another of a very happy Cindy!
The Sisters Too Booth takes shape
>> Thursday, July 9, 2009
Both Bonnie and Cindy have been working hard on their "Sisters Too" booth with the help of their significant others. They are pictured below wielding tools not usually held by jewelry artisans!
Careful you don't fall off, Cindy!
The booth's nearly ready so tune in for the big reveal!
Our Jewelry at the new Harbourview Market
>> Wednesday, July 8, 2009
Cindy and Bonnie are so excited! They are about to open up a stall at the new Harbourview Weekend Market off Portland Street in Dartmouth starting this Saturday and Sunday from 9- 5 pm. Jewelry from the Bead Sisterhood will naturally fill the display! The booth is under construction at the time of writing so the photo above is actually from another craft show we did.
What generated the buzz at our home show

We recently had a successful home jewelry party where all the guests enjoyed shopping for one of a kind jewelry in a relaxed atmosphere. There was plenty of buzz with the lovely jewelry on display. However, what also grabbed attention was the sale counter of end of season discounts!

It's Here! introducing Our New Website
>> Monday, April 13, 2009
The Bead Sisterhood website is finally live!! The fireworks picture is apt because bead sister Tamara's email when the website was finalised was sprinkled with lots of emoticons and yes, you guessed it, fireworks. Now the hard work comes, uploading pictures of all our pretties!

We're getting the bubbly ready....
>> Thursday, April 9, 2009
We've had phone calls, emails and even group chats to come up with our website. Through it all, we managed to giggle our way through brainstorming sessions. It's not easy with five of us, each with our own opinions but we managed it and that is what counts.
The website looks beautiful. Now we are busy loading our new online store with lovely jewelry. So just a little while longer... Read more...
